Tu nous instruis, tu nous consoles,
Durant ton absence, ô Jésus !
Car ton Esprit et tes paroles
Demeurent avec les élus.

Ta voix se fait toujours entendre
Dans tes oracles précieux,
Et ton Esprit, pour les comprendre,
Touche nos cœurs, ouvre nos yeux.

De ton grand amour la mémoire
Se transmet ainsi chez les tiens.
Au désert nous voyons ta gloire
Et goûtons les célestes biens.

Oui, cette Parole de vie
Est comme une grappe d’Eshcol,
Dont la saveur nous fortifie
Au milieu d’un aride sol.

Daß wir verstehen Deine Lehren,
öffnet Dein Geist uns Herz und Sinn.

Das läßt uns immerfort gedenken
an Deine Liebe, teurer Herr.
Du willst uns schon hienieden schenken
himmlische Freuden, mehr und mehr.

Dein Wort ist wie die Eskoltraube,
hat uns Erquickung zugewandt.
Daran erfrischt sich unser Glaube
mitten im dürren Wüstenland.

Bald hat Dein Geist, der treue Tröster,
hier Seinen Dienst an uns erfüllt.
Dann schaut ein jeglicher Erlöster
Dich, Du Lamm Gottes, unverhüllt!

in Thy precious oracles,
and Thy Spirit, that we may understand them
touches our hearts, opens our eyes.

The memory of Thy great love
thus passed on among Thine own.
In the desert we see Thy glory
and taste the heavenly blessings.

Yes, this word of life
is like one of Eschol’s grapes,
its savour strengthens us,
in the midst of an arid ground.
5.
But soon that sweet ministry
will end for Thy dear flock;
and face to face, in Thy light,
we shall speak to Thee, holy Lamb!
