Grand Dieu, nous t’adorons, ô toi dont la clémence
Au sein de notre nuit a fait briller le jour.
Dans nos cœurs ton amour
A placé sans retour
Ton ineffable paix, don de ta grâce immense.

Des foudres de la loi s’éteignit la menace,
Quand ton Fils prit sur lui tous nos égarements ;
Et tes heureux enfants,
Par la foi triomphants,
Pour leurs nombreux péchés ont ta lettre de grâce.

Ta charité, Seigneur, ta charité nous ouvre
Les secours de l’Esprit, les trésors de ta paix.
À tes divins bienfaits
Nous avons libre accès ;
Et l’ombre de ta main nous protège et nous couvre.

Vers le but, ô Jésus, conduis-nous sur tes traces ;
Fais-nous attendre en paix ton glorieux retour :
Objets de ton amour,
Nous allons au séjour
Où nos noms sont écrits, où tu conquis nos places.

die unsre Nacht durchdrang mit dem göttlichen Schein.
Du gabst den Frieden Dein
in unser Herz hinein;
o welch ein Gnadenwerk, o welch ein reicher Segen!

Der Fluch von dem Gesetz ward dort am Kreuz zunichte,
als Deinen Sohn für uns traf das bitterste Leid.
Von großer Schuld befreit,

nahn wir als Kinder Dir, glücklich in Deinem Lichte.

Dein Lieben, teurer Herr, erschloß uns Deine Gnaden,
schenkte uns Deinen Geist, gab uns alles schon hier.
Zum Gnadenthron, zu Dir,
nahen freimütig wir;
der Schatten Deiner Hand schützt uns auf unsern Pfaden.

O Jesu, steh uns bei, Du, der zum Ziel uns leitet;
laß, weil Dein Kommen nah, uns als Wartende stehn,
auf Deine Liebe sehn,
hin zu der Wohnung gehn,
die unsre Heimat ist, die Du für uns bereitet!

gift of Thine infinite grace.

The threat of the law was removed,
when Thy Son took upon Himself all our sins;
and to Thy happy children,
triumphant by faith,
Thou hast granted Thy pardoning grace for their many sins.

Thy love, Lord, Thy love makes available
all the succour of the Spirit, the treasures of Thy peace.
We have free access
to Thy divine benefits, and the shadow of Thy hand protects us and covers us.

Towards the mark, O Jesus, lead us in Thy footsteps;
make us await in peace Thy glorious return:

we go to the abode
where our names are written, our places won.
