Quand tu viendras, Jésus, par ta puissance
Les morts en toi seront ressuscités,
En un clin d’œil ravis en ta présence,
Devant le Père en gloire présentés.
2.
Nous, les vivants qui restons sur la terre,
Trésor caché qu’a désiré ton cœur,
Pendant la nuit, veillant avec prière,
Nous t’attendons du ciel comme Sauveur.
3.
Regrets, soupirs, et larmes et souffrances,
Sont inconnus dans le céleste lieu :
Tu le remplis, Jésus, de ta présence ;
Là tout est paix : c’est le repos de Dieu.
4.
Là, recueillis dans la maison du Père,
Enfants de Dieu, peuple d’adorateurs,
Autour de toi, bien mieux que sur la terre
Nous serons rois et sacrificateurs.
5.
Ô profondeurs de l’amour insondable
Qui joint la grâce avec la vérité !
Tu visitas l’homme esclave et coupable,
Un monde impur contre Dieu révolté.
6.
Abandonnant ta splendeur infinie,
Tu descendis dans le sein de la mort,
Et sur la croix, ô Prince de la vie,
De nos péchés tu subis l’affreux sort.
7.
Prenons courage, amis, levons nos têtes ;
Frères, l’Époux, le Seigneur va venir !
Il nous convie à l’éternelle fête ;
Repos d’amour : c’est là notre avenir !

Wir, die noch gehn auf fremden Erdenwegen,
kostbarer Schatz für Dein liebendes Herz,
stehn im Gebet, sehn Dir wachend entgegen,
bis Du uns führst als Heiland himmelwärts.

Kummer und Leid, Versuchung, Schmerz und Wehe
kennt man nicht mehr dort im himmlischen Haus.
Du füllst es ganz; Deine göttliche Nähe
macht unsern Frieden, unsre Ruhe aus.
4.
Ewig zu Dir ins Vaterhaus genommen,
preisen wir Gott, der an Liebe so reich;
rühmen auch Dich, aller Schwachheit entnommen,
Priester vor Dir, und Könige zugleich.
5.
Liebe, so tief, daß keinen Grund ich finde,
Gnade und Wahrheit sie herrlich verband!
Du kamst herab zu den Sklaven der Sünde,
in diese Welt, die Gott entgegenstand.
6.
Du warst bei Gott, mit Herrlichkeit umgeben,
und stiegst hinab in den schrecklichsten Tod;
opfertest willig Dein eigenes Leben,
für unsre Schuld gingst Du in solche Not.

Brüder, faßt Mut! Hebt euer Haupt nach oben,
bald kommt der Herr, unser Bräutigam naht!
Seliges Teil, dann in Herrlichkeit droben
Ihn zu erhöhn für Seine Liebestat!

When Thou wilt come, Jesus, by Thy might
the dead in Thee will be raised,
in the twinkling of an eye caught up into Thy presence,
and presented in glory before the Father.
2.
We, the living who remain on the earth,
hidden treasure, the desire of Thy heart,
during the night, watching with prayer,
we wait for Thee as Saviour from heaven.
3.
Regrets, sighs, tears and sufferings,
are unknown in the celestial place:
Thou dost fill that place, Jesus, with Thy presence;
there all is peace: it is the rest of God.
4.
There gathered into the house of the Father,
children of God, a worshipping people,
around Thee, we shall be kings and priests,
much better than upon the earth.
5.
O the depths of unsearchable love
which unites grace with truth!
Thou didst visit enslaved and guilty man,
a defiled world in rebellion against God.
6.
Leaving Thine infinite splendour,
Thou didst come down to the depths of death,
and on the cross, O Prince of life,
Thou didst bear the dreadful judgement of our sins.
7.
Let us take courage, friends, let us lift up our heads;
brethren, the Bridegroom, the Lord will come!
He invites us to the eternal feast;
rest of love: this is our future.
