Autour du trône du Dieu fort,
Les esprits, attendant la gloire,
Du Sauveur, pour eux mis à mort,
En repos goûtent la victoire.
Mais, au sein de son cher troupeau,
Objet de son amour immense,
Dès ici-bas l’hymne commence :
Gloire à l’Agneau, gloire à l’Agneau !
2.
Unis ensemble en un seul corps,
Louons le Prince de la vie,
Le Premier-né d’entre les morts ;
Car, dans son angoisse infinie,
De nos péchés le lourd fardeau
Accabla son âme très sainte,
Quand son Dieu fut sourd à sa plainte :
Gloire à l’Agneau, gloire à l’Agneau !
3.
Souverain Sacrificateur
Dans l’inaccessible lumière,
Il est aussi, ce cher Sauveur,
Notre Avocat auprès du Père.
Mis à part, scellés de son sceau,
Nous possédons l’Esprit de vie
Par lequel son Église crie :
Gloire à l’Agneau, gloire à l’Agneau !
4.
Bientôt notre divin Époux,
Selon sa fidèle promesse,
Reviendra nous enlever tous.
Nous serons avec lui sans cesse,
Chantant le cantique nouveau
Dans notre céleste héritage.
Alors nous dirons d’âge en âge :
Gloire à l’Agneau, gloire à l’Agneau !

Am Throne Gottes warten schon
die Seelen auf die Herrlichkeiten
des Herrn, der trug der Sünde Lohn,
und der gesiegt nach bittrem Streiten.
Doch jetzt beginnt in dieser Zeit
inmitten der geliebten Herde
das frohe Lied auf dieser Erde:
«Dem Gotteslamm sei Herrlichkeit!»

In einem Leib mit Ihm vereint,
laßt uns den Lebensfürsten preisen!
Als Auferstandner Er erscheint,
und Ihn erhöhen unsre Weisen,
weil Er in unsagbarem Leid
die Schuldlast trug, von Gott verlassen,
der Makellose — wer kann’s fassen?
«Dem Gotteslamm sei Herrlichkeit!»
3.
Als Hoherpriester weilt Er dort
im unzugänglich hehren Lichte,
vertritt uns mächtig immerfort
vor unsers Vaters Angesichte.
Wir sind geheiligt, Gott geweiht,
versiegelt mit dem Geist der Liebe;
so ruft die Braut in heilgem Triebe:
«Dem Gotteslamm sei Herrlichkeit!»
4.
Bald wird Er uns nach Seinem Wort
als Bräutigam entgegeneilen,
uns führen ein zum Heimatort,
in Seiner Nähe dort zu weilen
im Himmelserbteil allezeit,
wo wir das neue Lied Ihm singen,
und ewig Ihm Anbetung bringen:
«Dem Gotteslamm sei Herrlichkeit!»

Around the throne of the mighty God,
the spirits (of departed saints) await the glory,
and while resting, taste the victory
of the Saviour who was put to death for them.
But in the midst of His dear flock,
object of His boundless love,
already here below the hymn begins:
glory to the Lamb! (2x)

United together as one body,
let us praise the Prince of life,
the First-born from among the dead:
for, in His infinite anguish,
the heavy load of our sins
overwhelmed His holy soul,
when His God was deaf to His cry:
glory to the Lamb! (2x)

High Priest
in inaccessible light,
He is also, this dear Saviour,
our Advocate with the Father.
Set apart, sealed with His seal,
we have the Spirit of life
by whom His church cries:
glory to the Lamb! (2x)
4.
Soon our divine Bridegroom,
according to His faithful promise,
will come again to take us all.
We shall be with Him forever,
singing the new song
in our heavenly inheritance.
Then we shall proclaim for all eternity:
glory to the Lamb! (2x)
