224. Nous exaltons, ô Dieu, le Fils de tes délices

Nous exaltons, ô Dieu, le Fils de tes délices,
L’objet de ton amour de toute éternité ;
Pour ta gloire il voulut s’offrir en sacrifice :
Il vint pour accomplir toute ta volonté.
2.
Lui, le Fils éternel, dans sa grandeur suprême,
De la divinité possédant tous les droits,
Il s’est anéanti, s’est abaissé lui-même,
Et t’a glorifié, allant jusqu’à la croix.
3.
Fils de l’homme élevé sur le bois du Calvaire,
Sacrifice agréable éprouvé par le feu,
Ton Bien-aimé s’offrit, Victime volontaire,
Holocauste parfait et tout entier pour Dieu.
4.
Ton cœur fut satisfait par toute l’excellence
De l’Agneau préconnu, sans tache et sans défaut :
Son entier dévouement, sa pleine obéissance,
Comme un parfum très pur, montaient vers toi là-haut.
5.
Par le don de sa vie, offrande expiatoire,
Christ a fait resplendir tes attributs divins,
Et d’un Dieu juste et saint revendiquant la gloire,
Il a magnifié ton amour souverain.
6.
En lui ressuscités et rendus agréables,
Père, nous célébrons tes conseils merveilleux.
Unis au Bien-aimé par ta grâce insondable,
Nous t’adorons déjà dans les célestes lieux.

der Deine Wonne ist in alle Ewigkeit.
Er wurde, Dir zum Ruhm, das Lamm aus freiem Triebe;
erfüllte Deinen Rat, gefaßt vor aller Zeit.

Dein eingeborner Sohn, der Höchste über allen,
der als der ewge Gott besitzt ein jedes Recht —
Er machte Sich zu nichts nach Deinem Wohlgefallen,
ging niedrig Seinen Weg zum Kreuze als Dein Knecht.
3.
Als Menschensohn erhöht, hat Er Sich ganz gegeben,
geopfert auf dem Holz, in Feuersglut bewährt.
Dein Vielgeliebter ließ freiwillig dort Sein Leben:
Dies Brandopfer hat Dich in jedem Stück geehrt!

Er, der zuvorerkannt, war ohne Fehl und Flecken,
befriedigte Dein Herz, und konnte immerdar,
weil Er Dir ganz geweiht, darin nur Freude wecken:
Welch reinster Wohlgeruch, der aufstieg wunderbar!
5.
Er sühnte unsre Schuld, Ihn trafen Todesschatten,
doch zeigt sich grade dort Dein göttlich Wesen ganz.
Was wir Dir einst geraubt, das mußte Er erstatten,
und darin hell erstrahlt der Gottesliebe Glanz.
6.
Mit Ihm nun auferweckt, als Kinder angenommen,
o Vater, Deinen Rat wir dankerfüllt erhöhn.
Aus Gnaden Ihm vereint, mit Huldigung wir kommen
schon jetzt ins Heiligtum, und werden bald Ihn sehn!

We magnify, O God, the Son of Thy delight;
from all eternity, the object of Thy love;
for Thy glory He offered himself as sacrifice
He came to do all Thy will.

He, the Eternal Son, in His supreme greatness
possessing all the rights of the Godhead,
He emptied Himself, humbled Himself,
and glorified Thee in going even to the cross.

Son of man, lifted upon Calvary’s tree,
acceptable sacrifice, tried by fire
Thy Beloved gave Himself as a willing victim
perfect burnt-offering, entirely for God.
4.
Thy heart was satisfied with all the excellence
of the Lamb foreknown, without spot or blemish,
His entire devotion, His complete obedience,
rose to Thee as a sweet-smelling savour.
5.
Through the gift of His life, atoning sacrifice,
Christ made Thy divine attributes to shine
He claimed the glory from a just and holy God
He magnified Thy sovereign love.
6.
In Him raised up and made acceptable,
Father we extol Thy wondrous counsels.
One with Thy Beloved through Thine unsearchable grace, we adore Thee on high.
